Project Manager - Contract

The Math Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit education organization with a track record of developing high-quality mathematics materials, including Bridges in Mathematics. We create materials that engage students, promote classroom community and discourse, and help more than 80,000 elementary teachers across the country deliver effective mathematics instruction.

We are seeking a project manager for a multi-month contract. 

We are looking for an independent contractor to provide project management and process development that support efficient processes within our organization. Some of the projects include facilitation of cross-functional projects between the writers of our curriculum and designers who format our curriculum materials as well as the development of an online educator portal.

You will develop and execute project management plans—including goals, timelines, workflows, scope, budget, resources, milestones, and deliverables.

In-person collaboration days will be on Mondays and Thursdays onsite in our Portland, Oregon office.

What you will do:

  • Provide project management and process development expertise.
  • Develop and execute project management plans—including goals, timelines, workflows, scope, budget, resources, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with team leaders to allocate resources that optimize project outcomes while maintaining budgetary targets.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, including kick-off meetings, status updates, and project reviews.
  • Use efficient and effective processes and project management tools to ensure that contractors, vendors, and staff are meeting all project requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and promptly address any deviations from the plan.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify process improvements and best practices for project management.
  • Conduct regular reviews and evaluations of project deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Communicate project objectives, timelines, and expectations to team members and keep leadership informed of project status.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines or deliverables; develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address potential challenges.
  • Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and implement recommendations for future projects.
  • Manage stakeholder feedback and incorporate revisions into project plans as needed.

How you are qualified:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years or more of experience in project management, preferably in the educational publishing industry.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development processes and educational standards is a plus.
  • Experience using project management software or systems to track workflows, manage assignments, and provide visibility into project progress for stakeholders.
  • PMP certification or equivalent is preferred.

The Math Learning Center requires completion of the initial series of the COVID-19 vaccination.
