The Math Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit education organization with a track record of developing high-quality mathematics materials, including Bridges in Mathematics. We create materials that engage students, promote classroom community and discourse, and help more than 80,000 elementary teachers across the country deliver effective mathematics instruction.

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader with a passion for driving growth through delivered customer value. Our ideal candidate is adept at building strong relationships, skilled at designing and implementing growth strategies, and brings experience leading development and communications teams.

With a focus on understanding customer needs, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of our organization by expanding MLC’s market presence and mission through effective business development strategies and external communications.

This position is based in Oregon. In this hybrid or onsite role, office days are in our Portland, Oregon office.

What you will do:

  • Craft and implement business development plans and processes to drive new curriculum adoption opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure MLC has a compelling development and communication strategy.
  • Ensure that our external engagement and presence at conferences and trade shows are oriented to our strategic goals and mission.
  • Oversee marketing, communications, customer experience, proposal submissions, and outreach.
  • Set short- and long-term strategic direction, anticipate industry trends, assess opportunities and vulnerabilities, and position MLC for growth.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of MLC’s value, strategy, operations, and products.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive communication and marketing strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility and brand.
  • Direct projects and oversee work to ensure deliverables are completed on time and with accuracy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align partnership strategies with organizational goals.
  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships with schools, districts, and educational organizations.
  • Represent MLC’s mission and vision at conferences, meetings, and internal events.

How you are qualified:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, education, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Ten years of experience in nonprofit or business development, communications, marketing, and sales, preferably within the education sector.
  • Five or more years of experience managing development, sales, or marketing teams.
  • Understanding of the K-12 education landscape or elementary math curriculum is preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute successful marketing and sales strategies.
  • Proven track record of driving strategic revenue growth and building successful relationships with customers and partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and influence a variety of audiences.
