Chief Financial Officer
The Math Learning Center (MLC) is a non-profit education organization with a track record of developing high-quality mathematics programs, including Bridges in Mathematics curriculum. We create materials that engage students, promote classroom community and discourse, and help more than 80,000 elementary teachers across the country deliver effective mathematics instruction.
The opportunity:
We’re seeking a strategic and collaborative Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to guide MLC’s financial future and fuel our mission. The CFO is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for ensuring the organization’s financial health, strengthening operations, and aligning resources to support sustainable growth.
This is an opportunity to partner across the organization, drive impact, and expand MLC’s capacity to serve educators and students nationwide.
This position is based in Oregon. In this hybrid or onsite role, office days are split between our Portland and Salem offices.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies that align with MLC’s mission and goals.
- Partner with leadership to align financial resources with strategic priorities and long-term sustainability.
- Provide clear, timely financial reporting and insights to the Board of Directors and senior leadership.
- Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively to achieve strategic goals.
- Support efficient procurement, supply chain, and distribution systems.
- Oversee ERP system optimization and leverage data for strong financial decision-making.
- Drive investment, cash management, and risk management strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all audits, reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision-making.
- Lead and inspire the finance team, fostering growth, accountability, and collaboration.
- Present financial insights to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.
- Build strong relationships with banks, auditors, vendors, and partners.
- Champion MLC’s values of equity, inclusion, and collaboration in all aspects of financial leadership.
How you are qualified:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Ten or more years of experience in financial management.
- Five or more years of experience in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP of Finance), including supervising employees.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
- Experience with ERP systems, procurement, and materials/shipping operations is a plus.
